International Annoyance

So today Apple should announce their new iPhone OS. I’ve gone over this a little already and as I can’t write the official announcement overview yet, you can all relax: this post isn’t about the iPhone.

I know, right. Jeeze already, lay off with the Apple posts, seriously no one cares. They’re evil and not everyone has an iPhone. Don’t worry; this is NOT about the iPhone.

It’s about the iPad. Hah. See what I did there?

Anyway yeah, so the iPad. It’s frustrating; everyone is talking about the iPad. The reviews are up and they’re mostly positive. What it does it does well. Every App demonstration video I’ve seen just makes me want to get it more. The American pricing isn’t murder and the iPad specific Apps are looking impressive. Why haven’t I bought it, then? You ask, I ponder… No! Stop! Wait! Stop the show! I don’t need to wonder, to think is beyond purpose.  It’s a fairly easy answer: it’s not out in the UK; it’s not out in Europe. Even the prices have yet to be announced!

It’s all rather dire.

The dates keep moving and the rumours cover every possibility but America doesn’t care. Steve has made the product, negotiated the 3G price plans and even sold a large amount to his own people. America has their iPad and they love it, there aren’t any major issues and the WiFi model should be ready to be sold abroad.

There is always a gap when things are sold in multiple continents but why? In this day and age surely they could release everything at once. We have the technology (We can make him better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.) But we don’t, the old system is industry standard and they leave it. Hell, it’s not even industry specific, every industry does it! Film, video games, technology… Japan, America and the UK all have different release dates for products which shouldn’t be geographically specific.

Back to the iPad though, from what I can tell they’re simply manufacturing the product in the same place (for the same price) and then just shipping them over to the UK. It’s not like it’s a different process, it’s not a different supply chain and it’s not too hard to increase the numbers made. They could quite easily sell us the product but they don’t. They just like to watch us squirm.
