So I’ve been thinking about photography lately, I’ve had Photoshop for a long while and have even use it once or twice. I feel that extending my role when it comes to photography from simply a general interest to actually producing my own work. I spend a lot of time looking at photography, finding new peoples work on DeviantArt and various forums; even going to actual professional galleries and exhibitions. Oh the artwork of it all!

So why can’t I give it a go? I’ve always sorta thought in the back of my mind that I would love to try. I do think that sometimes I see the world differently to others, or at least that I focus on different things. When you spend extended periods of time sitting in the same sorts of places your focus seems to shift. When you spend two years away from the worl; I feel like I could show people something new. This isn’t to say that I’d immediately be good at this; I know that if I finally decide to get a camera and go for it that it will take a lot of learning. This seems like a lot of bad photos and a lot of stupid ideas before I can even come close to sharing my work with other people. I still sorta feel like it’d be worth it.

I do feel sorta like that all those people who have decided to study photography for years on end, practise day in and out and then make a career out of this are better for it. It’s not just like I’m all “Work? Pfft, I just point and shoot. Easy.” I’m trying to stay humble when thinking about this whole subject; I know I could very easily make it out to be something it isn’t.
If I do give this a go, it’s pretty much going to go like this. I’m going to get a really expensive camera, blowing pretty much all my savings. The majority of getting good would just involve reading a lot of books. I’m sure there are many principles of photography which need to be studied so I would need a couple books on that, a lot of reference books and then a couple tutorials which I’d likely look for online.
Actually taking photos would obvious be very fun, messing around with a new piece of tech is pretty much one of the best things in the world to do. If I’m going to spend £300 on a camera then god knows what on lenses and filters and stuff. I’m going to really go out and use it. Which will take up quite a lot of time, I’m sure.
If I eventually decide on giving this a go it will be a very big project and I’ve actually got to throw myself in. I’m making myself turn this into a real commitment so it’s a lot to think about. I welcome all the advice I can get on this.
