I know, this is something which isn’t put on here too often but this is actual news. This Friday Apple will announce their new iPhone OS. This is the fourth OS and as yet there is absolutely no information on the type of changes which will be made. No hints, no real rumours or even general speculation, really.
Personally I had the second OS for about a month, which from what I remember was slow but fine. I then paid the £5 or so for the current OS3 and remember immediately finding it faster. I only have the iPod Touch so I know, it’s no 3GS. I have been thinking lately how maybe it could be a bit more speedy (This mostly comes from iPad videos.) so this new OS is perfectly timed.

When looking at the actual possible changes, a load of features could be implemented. I actually have a post lined up about my own possible changes to the iPhone; everyone has their thoughts so I’m sure the new OS will do something amazing to justify the cost. I do assume they will charge, though.
Having said that I doubt that there will be any major feature updates for us users. The jump from the first OS to the second basically added in everything they missed in the release. The third OS added some bells and whistles and then increased the speed of the apps. The fourth? I feel this will be focused more on pleasing the developers.
Something which I’ve thought about recently and I don’t know if it’s actually true but I’m someone at Apple has a job to think about this so surely it must’ve been brought up at least once. With the new iPad release, a product whose owners will be slightly more open to paying more money for Apps, will developers even bother with the iPhone anymore? I’m not sure how much of a big problem this could be but my business sense is telling me it’s something which should be addressed. So I would put money on Apple addressing this on Friday.
