OK so over the past two weeks or so, I’ve been hearing “Fireflies” everywhere. Every bloody shop seems to have added it to their mandatory playlsit. My friends are linking me to the YouTube video and people
seem to love it.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad it’s just not really any good. I listen to it and I can’t find the will to turn it off but I don’t exactly enjoy it. The lyrics don’t make any sense, the tune seems to be some defult GarageBand song and the singer kinda reminds me of every indie YouTuber out there.
There’s no surprise that Owl City itself originates from a parents basement, way back in 2007 when insomniac Adam Young started putting stuff on Myspace. Now that no one uses Myspace I do wonder where the slightly hipster slightly middle class overly mothered children of the future are going to attempt to try and become pop stars. I guess we just have to wait for a Music version of Twitter to evolve from the dying remnents of Tom’s last social media based breath. “2.0… Will live on… “
Basically, I’m not going to be contributing any of the money thrown into The Portal Service and Imogen Heap’s latest music lovechild. But I won’t lose my mind if I hear “Fireflies” the next time I’m in a Starbucks.
