Is Mad Men any good? From what I know, mostly, it’s about an advertising agency in the 1960’s and is apparently written well. It’s been on since 2007 and when I first heard about it my initial plan was to simply wait until it either becomes a huge show or was cancelled.
It seems that England mostly didn’t care for the show, there was no major advertising campaign, most people ignored the show completely and I never decided whether it’s worth watching. The US may find it amazing, I’ve seen a few adverts on some sites and people who do watch it… seem to like it. My problem is that no one is really talking about it, I’ve seen no major fan-boys or reviews and this is generally because I’m not myself living in the USA.
The show has had three seasons so far, each getting much higher views than the previous season. According to the internet it had a lot of very positive reviews by very respected journalists and I know it’s got a couple Emmy’s. Wikipedia tells me that the second season was privy to AMC’s largest marketing campaign ever, which does make me wonder. I mean, this does bring me back to when I previously stated that I’ve not seen ONE advert here in the UK. Why is that?
Is Mad Men really a good show? The statistics seem to say so, 2.8 million people watched the season three premiere and there’s no indication that people dislike it. Does the UK care that it’s a good show? This seems to be a completely different case altogether. Is it simply that the producers over here know that a British audience isn’t really into this sort of idea. Possibly the cancellation of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, a show which was advertised heavily in channel four, has made them hesitant. Or possibly our TV people don’t like America’s TV people. They took “The Office” from us and in return we only got “The Apprentice”. Maybe that pissed us off just a little bit.
It seems to actually find an answer here I’m just going to have to watch season one of Mad Men. But as to why it’s not on British TV; I guess that’ll take a bit more research.
