A British View.Paperplain is so cute, even her music is cute. I hate to just be another guy but that is about as far as my opinion extends. I wish I could write more intrinsicly.
Just a quick disclaimer to people who know me; Yes I am talking about music. I realise that is unlike everything about the history of me but I do actually listen to music sometimes, and (very) rarely (VERY rarely) actually buy it. Well if you don’t believe me, just recently I’ve demonstrated my ability to buy CD’s by ordering Paperplain’s second release! (Being an owner of the first release too, actually.)
The (obviously) hip indie guy* I am, I actually do have a copy of Paperplain’s first Vinyl LP, never being able to actually listen to it due to the lack of a record player it’s still in my room someplace. Collecting dust. Now I’ve ordered a “Mini-Album” .mp3 downloads mix. I just got my e-mail and I’m listening to the songs now, waiting to get the physical CD via the post. Paperplain isn’t like most music I listen too but it is a prime example of the sort of music I want to listen to. It’s very soft and acoustic, the singer is cute and the whole relaxing feel behind it makes me wanna both lay off the coffee and be in a coffee shop all at once.
*to clarify that is actually sarcasm.
I first heard Paperplain in a mememolly video back when she was actually still a YouTuber. (Some would argue she stopped YouTube’ing even before then.) and I was hooked, finding my way onto her myspace I’ve been a fan for a while. Part of the e-mailing list since the start I’ve been waiting for a CD for a while. Never making it to any of the live gigs, I do feel like there’s a lot I’m missing out. I’m obviously no expert on music; I couldn’t compare Helen to other artists or even guess at the songs she draws inspiration from. Her playlists are mysteries to me but I’m sure it’s something I’d like. I really do enjoy Paperplain’s music.
Paperplain is made up of one person, a nineteen year old girl who called Helen Page who hasn’t quite got her big break yet. Her Twitter following is smaller than even mine! I do hope she gets bigger but with the type of music there’s always going to be a limit to that. She seems like a generally nice person and this shines through in the music.
