V, just not for Vendetta

So, yet another remake, V is taken from the original 1983 miniseries by the same name. Arriving on Earth, the “V’s” who’re cloned to look like us are now are seemingly fixing our errors, re-establishing the survival of humanity and effectively “saving” us from our faults. All this, they claim, simply for the water they need to live.

Opening Healing Centres they’re offering a universal healthcare service, with Jesus like abilities they remove the ills which plex people in a way which reinforces their almost godlike status. The show switching between the original encounter to the nearby future, it does suffer a little in portraying what’s going on. Trying to cram a lot of back story into their 40 minute show. With a mix of good and bad, sleeper cells and the underlining clone theme, I do feel like it’s trying too hard to attract Battlestar Galactica fans, added to this the Firefly actors they’re likely to gain an audience there and obviously anyone who enjoyed the original miniseries. I don’t see this being cancelled too soon but at the same time, it doesn’t really look like it’s too amazing. It does seem like a two season show but it all depends on the quality of writing. Although, to be fair, the unsure priest is a fairly good character.

Accumulating members is a type of resistance, meeting in secret and trying to uncover the real reason behind why the V’s are here. We’re following a big mix of characters who we know will all interact with each other eventually, the resistance seems to start out of nowhere against the idea that the V’s are evil. Without real proof or evidence of this as yet, simply the general knowledge that aliens are always bad, the show does seem like it was thrown together a little too fast. I’ve only seen one episode and after writing this will probably continue to watch for a while, but if it doesn’t get better fast it’s unlikely that I will keep it up.

The show does have potential, but it’s not a sure thing, the biggest problem a writing staff like this will face is remembering that fact. The show isn’t interesting it’s just actually on. Which I guess is sometimes enough for it to be watched.
