iTunes Sucks

Why does iTunes suck on Windows computers? Seriously. Mac users don’t seem to complain too much, I mean it’s the operating system’s primary media player so I’m going to assume it works. Then again, technically Windows Media Player was designed for Microsoft… Regardless, iTunes just can’t be as bad as it is on Windows. I’m sure of that.

It’s slow, just, it’s so slow. And on top of that sluggishness it crashes a lot. You plug in an iPod and it’ll take a good couple minutes before it’s connected and if you try to add new music to the library; it will crash. Not only do I have to use Task Manager to force it to close as it completely freezes up every time I try and change anything but when it does work it uses up a ridiculous amount of CPU. This is a major problem because even when you’re not physically editing the music info and album covers, it takes too much CPU to leave open in the background. ituneslogo

Is it an attack on Microsoft users? Does Apple do this on purpose or did they just put it together and now doesn’t care about editing it further. Putting their focus on the Mac iTunes and not increasing usability and fixing glitches so obviously present in our Microsoft version. I do sort of understand Apple not wanting to spend that much time and money on increasing the Windows users’ experiences. As someone who owns three Microsoft computers I don’t have any real reason to have iTunes beyond that I need it for my iPod Touch. I wouldn’t be too surprised if I found that the iPhone and iPod’s are the main reason PC users have iTunes.

This post doesn’t have a real point other than to bitch about iTunes for a second. I hate that I need this stupid piece of software on my computer that Apple doesn’t even try to make usable. With all the shit they’ve said about Flash (which I do agree with) it’s slightly hypocritical, as iTunes is the same as Flash when it comes to crashing frequency.

Dan Barker is absolutely brilliant in this clip. He sticks to the issue at hand and uses reasoning, facts and law to backup his stance. Fox news as usual tries to use incorrect and false reasoning to dislodge the public opinion. Dan Barker completely destroys that attempt without losing his cool or devaluing his own argument. I had to share it here for those reasons.

Public Opinion

A new feature of my site, it’s been available for a while now but I’m only now actually bringing your attention to it. So, sorry if you’ve been waiting for this. (I doubt that you have.)

Basically, you can now submit subjects you want me to cover, ask me questions if you wish and generally try to steer my attention towards what you want me to cover in this site. I’m going to read everything submitted and I’ll incorporate anything useful into future posts.

You don’t need to log in to submit anything, I don’t want yah details. It’ll literally just take five minutes and unless it’s completely abused I’m going to keep it for a while. Mosey on over and give me something to read and respond too!

Heroes

My thoughts on the TV show “Heroes” has truly been a ride of ups and downs. It started off great, I watched the first season as it aired in America and thought it was great. By the time it reached England I was over it and having to wait so long for season two, which didn’t live up to expectations, kinda killed it for me. I forced myself to watch season three and four. It got better and it got worse but it never really grabbed me as an amazing show.

It’s been coming since season two but finally Heroes has been cancelled! Unlike Claire Bennet the show is finally dead and bar chatter of a final straight-to-TV film (designed to tie off most of the stories) it won’t be coming back. The ratings have dropped ridiculously and looking at the numbers I’m really surprised it even got a fourth season.

Personally, I hate the characters. Claire is an annoying whiny brat, Hiro isn’t nearly as interesting as you first thought and Peter, when not being an emo, just stupidly runs into danger without thought. The only character I wanted to find out more about was the invisible man and due to various off-screen problems it was clear the chances of him coming back were extremely slim. I feel that the main success of the show came from trying to figure out these characters and how they’ll each use their powers. Once the audience knew exactly who everyone was and what their goals were, they got bored. The conflict was usually silly, characters flipped from good to bad too often and the amount of dramatic irony was literally off the charts.

I usually don’t include charts and things in my stuff but I thought this was important. This really backs up what people are saying about the show. It’s kinda surprising really, I thought it was doing better and I’m confused about the lack of advertising after season three. You would think that with the continuously diminishing numbers NBC would have either cancel it there and then or release a pretty substantial advertising campaign to re-establish a strong viewer ship for season four.

Nightmare on Elm Street

This film is out today in the UK (and looks awesome.) I think I’ve talked about this before on my Twitter but it looks like a rather good take on the old film. It seems creepy, not veering too far from the original film yet still worth the overpriced cost of visiting a cinema.

I’ve only seen the first film out of the series and I loved it. It was Johnny Depp’s first ever film, it was arguably quite dated but it still kept my attention and was enjoyable. I would watch it again and it’s my idea of a good popcorn film. This remake looks like it’ll be similar in that respect. From the posters to the TV spots it look like I could easily sit there, silently moving a single piece of popcorn into my mouth very slowly… The director, Samuel Bayer, is fairly unknown when thinking about films. Most of the previous work is primarily made up of rock music videos, so I’m interested to see his take on this film, being a more long-form media.

Earle

Freddy Krueger hasn’t changed too much and the actor is literally perfect for the role. If I was to choose anyone over Robert Englund to play this role, it would be Jackie Earle Haley. He was awesome in Watchmen and then even better in Human Target. Rorschach and Guerrero are completely different characters but I love them both, despite being rather despicable people; I really hope Jackie Earle Haley manages this same effect with Freddy. I don’t have any reason to doubt that he will. I’m not going to lie that he is the main reason I’m going to pony up the money to see this on the big screen.

I’m watching this film. I’ll probably tell you about it after I have but as it is I’m really excited. It looks to be something good. This film seems to be a bit more focused on Freddy himself than on Nancy, so I do wonder how that shift will work when it comes to the story.
